NewsMatch

Accelerating community support for independent, nonprofit news.

Our Work NewsMatch

NewsMatch is a collaborative fundraising initiative that brings together funders, individual donors, and communities to grow and diversify support for news organizations that are members of the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN). Since 2017, NewsMatch campaigns have helped bring nearly 600,000 new donors to support INN members serving their communities with fact-based, unbiased news and information.

  1. Foundations, major donors, and other supporters give to NewsMatch’s pooled fund
  1. INN provides nonprofit newsrooms with tools and training to build the skills they need to conduct a fundraising campaign – from goal setting, to donor outreach, to post-campaign stewardship
  1. Newsrooms are allocated match funding from the pooled fund to spark  direct donations to their work
  1. Equipped with both the match and the skills to fundraise, newsrooms run a year-end fundraising campaign during which communities nationwide that value independent news donate to their local newsroom during NewsMatch
  1. Newsrooms come away from their campaign stronger: with the seed funding from NewsMatch, an increased donor base in their communities, and the skills to do it all again!
